How to blow-dry your hair

We all want to create that ‘straight out of the salon’ look but unfortunately most of us can’t afford high salon prices. To create that perfect blown-out look you simply need to have the right tools, some patience and follow a few simple steps. If you do it right your blow dry can add body to your hair and will keep its shape for a few days. A good blow-out will also keep your hair looking silky and healthy.

To start

Always start your blow-out by washing your hair thoroughly. Dry your hair with your towel slightly – avoid rigorous rubbing as this will cause knots. Your hair must be slightly dry before you start your blow-dry and if your hair is thick leave it for a few minutes to air dry before you start the blow-drying.

The next step

Apply a moisturising styling product to the hair to avoid frizz and add body to your hair. Use your fingers to comb through your hair to detangle it and lightly dry your hair with a hairdryer if it is still very wet. Separate your hair into sections; start from the bottom and clip away the sections you are not working on.

Dry it

Pull each small section straight out with your fingers and dry from the roots down to the ends. You can use a round brush but fingers work just as well if you keep the hair taught. For the ends use a round-barrelled brush to flick them in or out depending on what look you are going for. You need to work with the brush and dryer simultaneously – pointing the nozzle downwards at the hair as you brush through it.

Finish it off

To finish your look blast your hair with cool air from your hairdryer and finish it off with a styling serum or shine spray, like Tigi’s Brunette Goddess, to prevent any fly-away strands.
