Shorts have become the latest in must-have fashion items and they are wonderful for flaunting great legs. The runways of top designer brands like Tommy Hilfiger and Matthew Williamson have been sporting this trend. Shorts come in a variety of shapes and styles that can be worn to casual or classy events. To stay with this trend it’s all about knowing how to wear shorts, what to pair them with and which ones work for you.
Short shorts
Tiny shorts are definitely not meant for everybody and they look best on tanned or dark-skinned people. Short shorts should always be teamed with a fuller, high-necked top to avoid a too revealing look. An army jacket and bright tank top go great with washed out denims while a glittery top can be paired with stilettos and black-silk shorts for a fun night out. If the shorts do not cover your bum they are too short!
Running shorts
With gym wear hitting the streets of high-fashion, tracksuit and sports shorts are right on trend. Pair your tracksuit shorts with a neon tank and hi-tops for a fun, casual look. Beware – Lycra running shorts are not part of this trend and should not be worn when you are not exercising.
A flattering fit
Shorts that sit low on the waist and are loose are the most flattering fit as they make the bum look small and don’t create that muffin-top effect. If you are small and petite wear pleated shorts to create volume and curves. Tall women can wear most shorts but if you think you look a bit leggy then try Bermuda shorts that just covers the knee. Suits with shorts are also a huge trend and ones with large cuffs are super cute.
Try and keep shorts fitting in soft fabrics for a girly look that will suit your body. Shorts should hug your bum but be loose on the upper thighs. Stick to darker colours if you feel self-conscience, sparkles if you want a glamorous look and bright colours if you feel like being playful.
