Everyone knows that even if you have the exact same make-up as someone else, the way the make-up appears on your face could be vastly different. This is because not only is the way you apply make-up critical – the very reason for the existence of make-up artists – but also because the canvas, your face, needs to be perfectly prepared for the make-up. Here are some tips on making sure your face is the ideal canvas for perfect make-up.
Tip 1: Clean, oil-free skin
A cardinal rule of make-up application – one that everyone knows – is that you should never apply make-up to a dirty skin. Wash your face thoroughly before applying make-up, and where possible, use soft cotton wool to wipe it. Remember, you want to make sure your skin is clear, and that if it often gets oily, you want to remove the oil, too. Remember the skin ABSs: cleanse, tone, moisturise and you’re good to go.
Tip 2: Wear make-up sparingly
Make-up is meant to enhance your appearance, not be your new appearance, but wearing make-up too often has the inverse effect. It clogs your pores and damages your skin over time. As such, you should wear make-up sparingly. If you always wear make-up when you go out, then remove it the minute you get home. If you only wear make-up on certain occasions, your skin should be fine. This way, whenever you do sport eye shadow, liner and the like, you will have perfect make-up every time.
Tip 3: Wear skin-friendly make-up
Certain companies have built their entire business on face care products. Using the appropriate product will protect your skin against the elements, as well as protect your skin against the corrosive effects of make-up itself.
Always use your make-up with the right combination of moisturiser and skin care products. And do your best to treat the canvas the make-up goes on – your face – with care, so as to give yourself the best chance for the perfect make-up appearance.
