Most women – all women – want to have the most beautiful skin possible, investing hundreds of pounds every year to attain that goal. The strange thing is, oftentimes what women do to care for their skin has an adverse effect on the health of their skin. We only have one chance at good skin and unfortunately doing too much to it has long lasting effects. Here are some tips on better caring for your skin, in terms of what not to do when practicing good skin care.
Let your skin breathe
Most women know this but do not do enough to act on it – makeup is bad for your skin. No, not generally speaking, but applying too much makeup or wearing makeup for long stretches will have adverse effects on your skin. Whenever you get the opportunity, go without makeup. Nude is in. As best as you can, go without makeup for long stretches of time. Good skin care habits often require we change our behaviour.
Sunlight is not your friend
Though brazen bronze skin is desired by many women, the act of tanning kills cells in your skin. What’s particularly funny about that is most people know this – with the negative extremities being severe sunburn or even skin cancer. Wearing sunscreen at all times – or at least moisturiser that has sun screen in it – will protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Wearing an attractive hat during blazing summer will not only make you look fashionable and trendy, but will do wonders for your skin, too.
Ditch the cigarettes!
Smoking, in general, is bad. Not only does it have adverse effects on your overall health, but it also negatively impacts your appearance. Cigarettes make the skin look older, and wrinkle faster because they destroy elastin and collagen – the fibres that contribute to your skin’s elasticity and strength.
Makeup, excess sunlight and cigarettes are not the way to a gorgeous skin. Cut back on any of these three, and you will likely see an immediate improvement in the health of your skin. Good skin care is as much about knowing what not to do as it is about what to do. Now, at least, you know what not to do.
