Eye make-up that looks really good on one woman may look disastrous on the next. Have you ever copied a celebrity look and found it just didn’t work on you? This could be because you used the wrong shade on your eyes, or used a make-up trick that didn’t suit your features or skin tone. Just like no two people are exactly alike, no two pairs of eyes are either. Here’s an easy guide to making the most of your unique features.
Eye colour
The best eye make-up will complement your eye colour. If your eyes are brown or black, choose rich purples, dark browns, greys and golds. If you have blue eyes, opt for greys, dark browns and golds. Purple and browns work best to bring out green eyes.
Hair colour
You should always take your hair colour into account when choosing eyeliner. Blondes and redheads shouldn’t use black eyeliner unless they have brown eyes, or are aiming for a dramatic evening look. Black eyeliner looks best on women with black to dark brown hair. Black or black-brown eyeliner should be used by women with in-between hair colour, like light brown or reddish hair.
All women, except those with very pale eyebrows, should use black mascara. If your eyebrows are very light, opt for a dark brown mascara rather.
Eye shape
Women with small eyelids should use the darkest eye make-up shade they have chosen over the entire eyelid, with the colour gradually lightening towards the end of the eyebrow, closest to the nose.

For women with medium-sized eyelids (the eyelid is a third of the size of your open eye), a lighter shade of the chosen colour should be used all the way from the crease in the eye to the brow line. That shade should then also be added to the quarter of your eyelid closest to your nose. The remaining part of the eyelid should then be filled with the darker colour.
Women with large eyelids should use a lighter colour from the eyebrow to the crease of the eye, and a darker colour on the remainder of your eyelid.
Remember, practise makes perfect. So if at first you don’t get your eye make-up right, try and try again.
