How to remove unwanted facial hair

Around 40 per cent of women have unwanted facial hair, according to The Guardian’s Julie Bindel. A self-proclaimed lesbian feminist and campaigner against unrealistic beauty standards for women, Bindel argues that women should embrace facial hair. That may be a little extreme for most women, who simply want to remove unwanted hair as quickly, and as thoroughly, as possible. For those of you who find facial hair embarrassing, here’s a look at the best methods of removing it, starting with the number one method, laser.

Zap those pesky hairs forever

Advances in laser technology mean that people with any complexion can now have laser treatment. When laser hair removal was first introduced, it was only suitable for lighter skin. Now everyone has the option of permanently removing unwanted facial hair, but at a cost. Getting rid of hair forever takes time. You may have monthly sessions for up to a year before the hair is really and truly gone. While home laser systems are available, we recommend only seeing a professional for laser hair removal. She’ll be available to advise you on skin care and sun protection while having laser treatment.

Wax off

Waxing, done by a professional or at home, is a great way to remove unwanted facial hair. Waxing has two big downsides, though. First, the hair will grow back in a few weeks. Second, the hair needs to be a certain length before it can be waxed. So if you have a few straggling chin hairs you can’t stand, they’ll have to be long enough to be visible before you can have them waxed away.

Epilators

The great thing about hair epilators is that you can use them at home, and they work just about as well as a wax. But, like waxing, hair needs to be fairly long before you can use an epilator on it. Also, as with waxing, the hair will stay away much longer than it would if you shaved it.

The British Association of Beauty and Cosmetology (BABTAC) can help you find a qualified beauty therapist in your area if home hair removal is not for you.
