Everyone wants a perfect white smile, but some of us have to work harder than others to get it. If you want to get your teeth white and keep them looking great, start off by using a good toothbrush and brushing at least twice a day, with whitening toothpaste. If you’ve got more serious staining or you don’t understand why your teeth aren’t quite the shade you want them to be, read on.

Try whitening

Having teeth professionally whitened is a good option to get rid of serious staining. It is expensive, but can be a good investment provided you don’t go back to habits that got your teeth looking yellow in the first place.

Stay away from stains

You probably know that coffee can stain your teeth, but you should also be avoiding tea, red wine, and some soft drinks. Can’t bear to give up one or more of these little vices? Try using a straw where you can, and brushing your teeth as soon as possible after you consume them. Away from your toothbrush? At least rinse your mouth out.

Don’t smoke

It’s really that simple. Apart from all of the other health benefits of quitting, you’ll be amazed at the difference it can make to your teeth.

Food can help

A good natural way to keep your teeth white is to eat lots of crunchy fruit and vegetables – think raw broccoli, carrots, and apples – which will help to prevent plaque build-up. For a household remedy for stains, try brushing your teeth with baking soda or a paste of lemon juice and salt. The taste might not be too pleasant, but you won’t regret it when your smile stays bright and healthy.
