If you’re preparing for a dress-up party, you’ll want to make sure that you get your look right from top to toe – and your hair is an important part of that look. Whether the theme you’re dressing up for is based around a specific decade or if you just need a hairstyle to go with a theme like ‘Grease’ or ‘Old Hollywood’ that’s related to a time period, get some inspiration and information to help you get your hair looking just right.

Twenties

For a glamorous twenties look, you’ll want to keeps things slick and stylish. The twenties were a decade of short hair, so if you’ve got a cropped hairstyle you’re in luck. Either way, create waves in your hair, then simply tie longer hair into a neat bun at the nape of your neck.

Fifties

The Fifties hair look can work well whether you want to keep it casual or get glamorous. Go for a ponytail or tie your hair up in a scarf for a cute daytime fifties look, or try a simple but elegant up-do. If you’re willing to make some extra effort, curls created with the help of rollers and sprayed into place provide the perfect way to style for a fifties look.

Eighties

An easy rule for an eighties hairstyle is ‘bigger is better’. Tease your hair (in small sections and only when it’s completely dry) then secure your hair with hairspray. For a hairstyle that’s quicker, but still cute and retro, just tie your hair up with a scrunchy on the side of your head.

Whatever hairstyle you choose, make sure that you keep your hair well-cared for. Use a thermal protection product before using straightening or curling irons, and use a deep conditioning product if hairspray or styling products leave your hair feeling dry or damaged.
