It is ironic that the process that is aimed to decrease the amount of wrinkles that one has could just be what is creating them. Recent research done by Dr. David Becker, an assistant professor of dermatology at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, and published in The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology, has claimed that the muscle areas that are not injecting with Botox will still find a way to express the emotions that Botox has prevented. Therefore although those that are injected with Botox do not have lines on their forehead anymore, the lines reappear on other areas of their face.
‘Bunny lines’
The most common place where the lines reappear is on the bridge of the nose. These are known as ‘bunny lines’ as it looks as if one is twitching their nose like a rabbit. This has always been the most common way to spot if someone has used Botox as it has been spotted on celebrities such as Dannii Minogue and Amanda Holden, who do not seem to have any wrinkles on their forehead but have the peculiar lines on the bridge of their nose.

Dr. Nick Lowe, who is a leading cosmetic dermatologist at the Cranley Clinic in London, has confirmed these findings but has said that he tends to inject the nose as well with Botox in order to diminish the ‘bunny lines’. Dr. Neil Saddick, a dermatologist in New York City has said that although it is true that immobilising the forehead muscles does pose the risk of wrinkles appearing on other places on your face, with Botox you get an ‘overall global improvement’ and you have less lines on your face, which is what a patient really wants.
Going the old-fashioned way
This research showing that Botox brings out a different set of wrinkles might not bring about the sudden revolution of women and men ageing naturally, but it might get people to start thinking a lot more carefully about whether getting Botox is a wise decision. The Botox industry is currently worth almost £18 million in the United Kingdom alone. Bobbi Brown, the make-up guru, has recently launched a new campaign called ‘Pretty Powerful’ which is about how one can look younger and improve the way they look by using simple make-up products such as concealer and lip gloss instead of having to resolve to such drastic measures as Botox. Brown has claimed that Botox is a form of poison and that we should be careful about what we let others inject into us.
