As if Madonna isn’t involved in enough glamorous enterprises already, she’s now breaking into the teen fashion industry with her Material Girl clothing range. The line has been created in collaboration with Madonna’s teenage daughter, thirteen-year-old Lourdes, who seems to be enjoy being creative as much as her superstar-actress-businesswoman mom. The clothing range is set for release this autumn – here’s hoping Madonna’s teen fashion venture will enjoy success comparable to that of her music career, rather than her acting endeavours.
Not the first time

This isn’t the first time that Madonna will try her hand at fashion design. In 2007 she launched the M by Madonna limited edition clothing collection in partnership with H&M, and now she’ll be extending her fashion reach in other directions: as well as the Material Girl range, Madonna will also be designing eyewear. It’s all part of Madonna’s new company – called MG Icon. It looks like this won’t be a short-term fashion hobby, but that Madonna is in this for the long haul.
So – is Material Girl any good?
The Material Girl range won’t be launched until autumn, so everyone who’s dying to get a look will just have to wait until then. For now, the news is that the clothing range includes the usual jeans, some accessories including necklaces, and even shoes. Fingerless gloves are there too, and it seems that the collection has been inspired largely by Madonna and Lourdes’ roots in and love of the world of dancing. There’s little doubt that Madonna and Lourdes have given the project their all, as is their habit, so it’ll be interesting to see what they’ve come up with and if there are any surprises in store.
Lourdes did all the work

Madonna says that it was Lourdes herself who was responsible for much of the work that was involved in putting together the new clothing range. Madonna’s daughter has had an interest in clothes and fashion design since she was an even younger child, and seems to have developed a great sense of style. Having a mom with friends like Stella McCartney can’t hurt – little Lourdes apparently spent time in the designer’s studio as a little girl, giving her thoughts on the clothes and fabrics.
Material world
In other news from the world of Madonna, she’s helping to establish a school in impoverished Malawi. During a visit to Malawi this week, Madonna laid the first brick of what will become the £10-million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, a school for 450 pupils. Madonna caused controversy last year when she adopted her daughter Mercy from Malawi, but seems to have chosen to disregard the critics and get on with the projects that she has her mind set on. Mercy and older sister Lourdes accompanied Madonna on the trip. It remains to be seen if Mercy will inherit the same material ambition that Lourdes already has in common with her mom.
