Hair removal sometimes seems to be a full-time job – and an unpleasant one. There are those who find hair removal very painful, and those who experience discomfort from hair growing back, and then there are those who just hate how time-consuming hair removal can get. The process doesn’t have to be awful, though – as long as you find the best method for your lifestyle and learn how to use it properly.
Hair removal methods
The factors to consider when choosing your method of hair removal include effectiveness, time and ease of use, and comfort, and cost. Shaving, probably the most common way to remove hair, doesn’t last long and can result in nasty nicks and cuts, but is relatively cheap. Many people find waxing to be very painful, even though it is long-lasting, and while laser hair removal is even more long-lasting, it’s very expensive. Hair removal creams are a time-consuming but non-painful option.
What about hair epilators?
Using a hair epilator to remove hair is a good option for someone who wants a longer-lasting hair removal technique. It’s similar to waxing in this way, and also because it causes hair to grow back in a far less coarse form than it was previously. It can be a bit painful at first, but that shouldn’t last for too long. Hair epilators seem to be a costly way to remove hair at first, but that’s just a once-off cost – after that the epilator’s yours and you’ll be using it free of charge for a long time to come.
But… what is a hair epilator?

An epilator uses a method of grasping and pulling to remove hairs – in other words, it works the same way that waxing does, but without the wax! Epilators can be spring type, rotating disk type, or tweezer type, but spring type hair epilators aren’t used as much anymore.
Just for girls?
Hair epilators work just as well for men as they do for women, despite the fact that men’s hair is generally more coarse than women’s. Some epilators target men in particular, so you might want to invest in one of these, but there doesn’t seem to be any real reason why men can’t use a regular epilator, too. If you’re a man removing hair for the first time, please be prepared for some pain – but know, too, that it does get better with time.
Staying smooth
As with many methods of hair removal, epilators can cause ingrown hairs, but with proper skincare you can avoid these: make sure that you exfoliate daily and avoid using products with alcohol in them on your face, as they close pores. You can also use skin products specially formulated to deal with this problem. Remember that beautiful, smooth skin can be a reality if you take good care of it and make the right choices when it comes to skincare and the method you use to remove hair.

This is still painful as waxing. Pain for smoothness is not an option for me.
