The best underwear

We’ve all heard women say that a great set of underwear makes them feel confident but what underwear works the best? Is it that trimming and thinning Lycra body suit or the skimpy G-string that does the trick, and where do men fall into all of this? Find out what underwear really is the best for your body and lifestyle whether you’re a guy or a girl because the wrong underwear can truly ruin a night or a great outfit.

Men

Men have almost as much choice when it comes to underwear as women do. Briefs can now be bought in high-rise or low-rise for maximum comfort. Briefs offer the most support and are less likely to ride up when compared to other men’s underwear and so are great for men who sit at desks all day or are constantly active. Most men find boxers the most comfortable style and they can be bought in a loose or tight fitting cut. Boxers don’t leave lines on suits or khakis but can bunch up if loose and are not great for physical activities.

Bras

The most important thing when it comes to choosing the right bra is to make sure it fits – you can get measured at your local underwear or department store. Adhesive or strapless bras are great for slinky dresses with no straps or low backs but offer less support than normal bras and it can take a while to find one that fits just right. Corsets help to shape not only the breasts but also the body and posture; they are great to wear under wedding dresses or can be modelled into the shape of a dress.

Demi-bras are great for low-cut dresses while padded bras add shape to small-chested girls. Racer back bras and cotton sports bras provide maximum support for physical activities but will do little for your shape. Fabric is also important when choosing your perfect bra. Cotton and Lycra are the most comfortable and, while lace is sexy, it can be itchy and show through clothing.

Panties

Thongs or G-strings eliminate lines under tight fitting garments but provide little support and can be uncomfortable. Bikini pants will give you the most coverage and can minimise muffin tops – granted they fit right. Boy shorts or hipsters fit like hot pants and are extremely comfortable but they do have a tendency to ride up and are so not great for physical activities or to be worn with tight clothing. Control-top panties sit high on the waist and help to keep the tummy tucked in while minimising the bum and thighs. There are also many shaping underwear items on the market that target problem areas and help to reduce bulges when wearing tight dresses and tops.
