From metallic leggings to sparkly scatter cushions – gold is making a comeback. Gone is the kitsch gold of the 70s and 80s, with gold – after having been neglected for some time – having become a status symbol again. Use gold to elegantly add glamour and glitz to your home and wardrobe. Find out how to decorate with gold while keeping it classy and how to wear it without looking overdone and trashy. Gold is back!
Gold in your wardrobe
You can update your wardrobe by incorporating some stunning gold accessories. Go for glittery pumps, gold scarves or shiny bags but make sure you buy quality items or the gold can tarnish, chip off or fade. Gold accent pieces should be paired with neutral colours like khaki, denim and black to make sure they really pop and try to avoid wearing gold with other metallic, bright or patterned materials.
Gold jewellery
Gold jewellery should not only be worn by your grandma – chunky gold bracelets and chains have now become a wardrobe staple of hip, young trendsetters worldwide. A simple gold ring, bracelet or pair of earrings can really add the sophisticated touch you’ve been looking for and for the more adventurous layered gold necklaces and bracelets complete the bohemian look. Gold looks best if worn plainly without too much added embellishment and colour and one gold piece is often enough for a whole outfit.
Gold in your home
As with your wardrobe, gold looks best in accent pieces. Metallic scatter cushions, vases, ornaments and candle holders can really make a room pop and look best against neutral coloured walls and furniture. Gold can add warmth to an otherwise cold room but avoid over-decorating with gold as it can go from classy to cheap if overdone.
