Cut down that Utility Bill
Are you plagued by a heavy utility bill and don’t know what to do? It is so simple. Take a few simple precautions and you can reduce it drastically. They might seem like simple tips but they go a long way to save energy and money.
The obvious is of course to use dimmer switches and fluorescent bulbs wherever possible. They not only save electricity but also provide better illumination. They last longer too so there is no reason why you should not use them.
You go in for central heating and that is a load on your bill? So get one with a programmable thermostat which will work only at certain fixed times and will certainly save precious energy too. The effect is the same but the costs are drastically cut.
Follow another basic rule and that is let the elements help you. Keep the blinds closed during summer and keep the heat out. Conversely, keep them open during winter during the day to let the sun in. so the sun will keep it warm during the winter days. It is also important to ensure that your most energy conserving appliances, such as the refrigerator, television, or washing machine, are all as efficient as possible. One way to check this is to make sure your appliance, such as the Beko CDA 539 refrigerator, has at least an Energy Efficiency Class A rating.
Another area, which is commonly overlooked, is the fireplace. Normally one neglects it. Ensure that the damper is working properly and the chimney is properly insulated. To take further precautions install a chimney cap as this will have a dual effect. It will keep the pests off and seal the heat in.
Another great idea for the fireplace is to have a glass door, which you can keep closed unless you need to use the fireplace. You may also use a blower to increase the heat. This will circulate the heat around the burning logs and force the heat back into the room. This will keep you warmer at a lower cost.
Simple! Try it and see the difference!
