DIY your wardrobe

If half your clothes are in your closet and the other half on your floor just because there simply isn’t space in your wardrobe you may want to think about making some more space. If you don’t have more space in your small apartment or you don’t have the money for a bigger cupboard you can make your own shelves, hangers and hooks. Rearrange your clothes and accessories and suddenly getting dressed will be so much more fun when all your favourite items are right at your fingertips, not scrunched in a ball at the back of your closet.

Box shelves

Cute box shelves are perfect for the storing of high heels and they look great on a blank wall. Your first step is to buy pre-cut boards of MDF (medium-density fibreboard) – you will need five boards of the same size per shelf. For interest’s sake you can make each box a different size. Bosch drills has a great step-by-step guide on how to make these DIY shelves. You can finish off your shelves with brightly coloured paint and place a pair of heels in each box and you have an instant storage space and work of art.

Hanging hooks

Hooks are a simple solution for hanging belts, necklaces or scarves and they don’t take long to put up. First mark where you would like to install your hook, and then make a shallow hole with your power drill or power screwdriver. If you’re putting hooks into drywall you will need to use anchor sleeves when drilling the actual holes. After you have drilled the holes screw in the screws that came with the hook and you’re ready to go. For a bit of versatility attach a split ring to the hook and thread your scarves or belts through it.

A coat stand

If you just don’t know where to put your hats and coats and a coat stand is too expensive, consider making your own one. Simply use some silicone glue to attach some knobs onto a yardstick. You can attach the yardstick to a wooden base or screw it into the wall to save space. You can find old knobs at antique shops and you can even use an old walking stick for a quirky effect.

Have fun redecorating your home. These simple DIY storage solutions are easy to make and can really show off your personality, not to mention your gorgeous clothes and accessories.
