Mirrors always add a dynamic and interesting feel to a home. Placing mirrors in the right spot in your house can do wonders for the atmosphere of the room. Making a mirror more attractive is great way of adding to its effect. A mirror in the right place with the right lighting can make your room look more spacious and also brighten up areas that may appear a little dark. Mosaic mirror tiling is a fantastic way of creating a really unique and exciting look to your bathroom or bedroom, or any room for that matter.

Creating your tiles

Making a mosaic tiled mirror is simple, fun and inexpensive. All you need to do is get hold of some ceramic off-cuts that suit the mood of your room. Then put the off-cuts together in a plastic bag. Smash the ceramic pieces up with a hammer until they are roughly the size you want your mosaic tiles to be. You can cut the tiles into the exact shapes you desire, although this requires a little more effort and isn’t really necessary. Having an assortment of irregular shaped tiles definitely adds to the unique, home made effect of your creation.

Putting your mosaic together

The next thing you will need is some adhesive glue that will work on a glass surface. This can be bought at pretty much any hardware or art store. You can then begin arranging and placing the ceramic tiles in any order you like on the mirror’s face. Create a frame of tiles around the mirror but make sure the part of the mirror you wish to show is protected.

Once you have designed your mirror and allowed the glue to dry, you can begin applying grout in between all the crevices, making sure that none of the mirror’s surface can be seen showing through. Before the grout dries you want to remove any unwanted residue that may have been left through the process. Use a warm wet cloth to do this.

Once the grout has dried you should then sand all the raised and tacky looking bits of grout away, giving the frame a smooth and finished look. Your mosaic tiled mirror is now complete.
