This Christmas, why not involve the whole family in a fun-filled project? Christmas stockings are simple to make and look gorgeous when you hang them up. There’s no constraint on how big, long or wide you make them. It’s completely up to you!
How to make a Christmas stocking
Children and grown-ups alike will enjoy this holiday activity because it’s fun, simple and doesn’t require any specialised skill. Moreover, the stockings will come in handy on Christmas when they can be stuffed with all kinds of goodies, ranging from sweets to small toys and action figures like the Schleich Crocodile Figure. All the materials that you need to make your own stockings can be found easily at your local supermarket or even already at home!
• You will need some material, preferably cotton to make the stocking and a different fabric, such as felt or flannel to cover it. Make sure that the cover material is of a single bright colour like red.
• Place the material on a table or flat surface. Put a sheet of tracing paper over it and trace an outline of the shape you want the stocking to be.
• Trace the shape a second time and cut both shapes out. Now cut a strip of cloth about 5 cm wide.
• Cut the flannel in the same shapes and sew it onto the cloth.
Now its time to decorate your stocking!
Encourage children to think creatively
A handmade Christmas stocking carries tremendous emotional significance. Encourage children to be creative and unrestrained while designing their Christmas stockings.
• You can use glass beads or pieces of different-coloured cloth to decorate your stocking.
• Use your imagination! Fabric paints, beads, tassels, decorative golden and silver confetti from the tree, anything can be used to make your Christmas stocking unique and fabulous!
