Make your own bath products

The great thing about making your own bath products is that you know exactly what ingredients have gone into them. Besides that, it’s fun to make things like bath-fizz granules and body cream at home. And you get to give wonderful gifts to your loved ones while enjoying any leftover stock for yourself. The body cream recipe we share here can also be used as a hand cream. The bath-fizz granules are similar to bath-fizz balls and the room spray and massage oil are oh-so-easy.

Home-made massage oil and room spray

To make 100 ml of massage oil, pour 100 ml of sweet almond oil into a glass container. Add 10 drops of your favourite essential oil and shake well.

To make 250 ml of room spray, you will need 250 ml of distilled water and 10 drops of your favourite essential oil. Pour the distilled water into a spray bottle, add the essential oil and shake the ingredients.

Almond-avocado body cream recipe

This body cream recipe will give you around 700 ml of cream. The ingredients call for 250 ml of sweet almond oil, 125 ml of avocado oil, 90 grams of beeswax, 175 ml of mineral water and 5 ml of essential oil of your choice.

Heat the beeswax with the almond and avocado oils over a low heat until the wax has melted. Heat the mineral water in a separate pot. Take both pots off the stove and carefully add the hot water to the beeswax mixture.

Continuously stir the ingredients together until the mixture reaches a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and has a creamy consistency. Add the essential oil of your choice and continue to stir until the cream is cool.

Bath-fizz granules recipe

Bath-fizz granules are a good replacement for bath fizz balls. Measure out the following ingredients: 500 grams of bicarbonate of soda, 250 grams of citric acid, 250 grams of cornflour, 5 ml of essential oil of your choice, some witch hazel in a spray bottle and some dried flowers.

Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl and then add the essential oil of your choice. Rub the oil into the ingredients with your fingers. Spray a little of the witch hazel onto the mixture and combine with your fingers once again. Spray some more witch hazel and continue with the process until the mixture resembles moist sand.

Go slowly with the spraying to prevent the mixture from fizzing. When you have small coin-sized granules, stop the spraying and mixing process.

Line a baking tray with wax paper, spread the granules onto the wax paper and bake the bath-fizz granules on a low heat until they are dry. This should take around 20 minutes. Package them in an airtight container once they are hard and cool.

Tip: If you’d like to some colour in your hand cream and bath-fizz granules, add a few drops of food colouring to each recipe.
