The internet has seen the previous barriers to entry of old industries like interior design, architecture, art, and home improvement collapse significantly. It’s empowered regular people who aren’t professionally trained to explore an interest in these fields. The thing is, you still need to get out there and meet other design enthusiasts and learn from professionals – something the internet cannot do for you.

Thankfully, the UK has some of the best interior design shows in the world over the course of a year, and below are a few worth upcoming ones worth attending.

The National Self Build and Renovation show (25 – 27 Feb 2011)

This three-day show is dedicated to all of those interested in DIY home building, or home renovations and improvements. It’s hosted at the National Self Build & Renovation Centre in Swindon, and is well worth attending to pick up some useful tips, tricks and skills.

Ecobuild (1 – 3 March 2011)

Ecobuild is a special design show in that it is the world’s largest event of its kind, focusing on sustainable construction, design and the built environments. It’s held in ExCel, London, and is likely to become required attending as the world shifts towards more sustainable practices.

Ideal Home Show (11 – 27 March 2011)

This design show is like the many internet slideshows and picture galleries you’ve browsed, in that it is all about inspiring you, through showcasing the best new ideas, and innovation in home and garden care. The fact that it runs for so long also makes it worth dropping in and out of a few times over its duration. It’s happening in Earls Court, London.

London Design Week (13-18 March)

This is the interior design show. The world’s best interior designers from all over the globe congregate at the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour in London annually to show off their wears, from lighting to fabrics and kitchen style, furnishings, and even outdoor living. If you are to go to only one interior design show, this should be it.
