Reality TV gives us plenty of shows that take unattractive homes and transform them into newer, more attractive places to live. The good news is that anyone can be in charge of their very own home makeover. If you’ve been afraid to put those tips and tutorials into action, now’s the time – use the simplest and ideas to make a big difference to your home and your life.
Clear out the clutter
You can make your own home look very different just by getting rid of all of the things you don’t want and don’t need. Set aside a weekend to do this as soon as possible, and be ruthless. Have a garage sale with everything you’re getting rid of, or donate it to charity.
Keep it simple
To avoid having a house that looks crowded and badly planned, create a focal point in each room and then keep the rest of the decoration simple.
Use colour

If you’re repainting, know what effect different colours have on a room. Remember that cool colours like blues and greens make a room look larger and feel more relaxing, while warm colours like reds and oranges are cosy but can make a room feel smaller. Neutral colours are probably your best bet – you can add furniture and accessories of any colour to your room.
Getting personal
Add touches that make your own home uniquely yours. This can mean pieces of furniture that you love and cherish, artwork that you’ve made yourself, or beautifully displayed photos of your friends and family. It’s your home and your space to live in, so add items and make changes that you’ll love both now and in the years to come – you won’t regret it.
