A boring blank wall can be transformed into the focal point of your room with a few simple ideas. Stunning décor on a single wall can contrast nicely against an otherwise plain room. As less is often more, you don’t want to overdo it on every wall but by adding some colour and design to one blank wall you can create a bold statement. So get out your paint, drills and creative energy and start decorating!
Painting
Paint your blank wall in a bold colour like red, yellow or blue to create an accent wall. Fun colours like raspberry and purple work really well in children’s rooms, while pastel shades can add interest to an otherwise sterile kitchen or bathroom. Tie in your chosen colour with your ornaments and small furnishings but go for neutral colours with the furniture and on the other walls so that it doesn’t appear overdone.
Wall decals and photo frames
Bright wall decals look great in children’s rooms as well as home offices while wall decals in shades of black and white can add sophistication to a bedroom or lounge. Photo frames can also be used to decorate blank walls and a picture wall is bound to provide endless hours of conversations. These decals and frames give you a chance to express yourself and unleash the interior decorator within.
Shelves
Interesting shelves hung on blank walls not only provide storage but can serve as decoration. Old books, cuddly toys or shoes can be placed on shelves to decorate an otherwise blank wall. Go for shelves in unusual colours and shapes to add interested to your boring, plain wall.
The usual
The most common ways to decorate blank walls are by hanging paintings and posters. Make this experience more personal by getting a poster printed of you and your friends or paint your own picture. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is tasteful and most of all, meaningful – after all, you have to live with it every day.
